The Institute for the Transformation of Catholic Education is an interdisciplinary research center at The Catholic University of America committed to the authentic renewal of liberal arts education in the Catholic tradition.

Mission and Vision of the Institute

We advance a vision of renewal for pre-kindergarten through grade 12 education in three ways:

  • training school leaders and teachers,
  • providing public intellectual leadership in support of parental school choice,
  • and expanding access to new generations of Catholic school students through innovative educational models especially in areas underserved by the traditional parish structure.

The Institute is located in Washington, D.C., and housed at the only university chartered by the U.S. Bishops and the Pope, so that its research and public activities can both provide a national impetus for the transformation we envision and serve as a unifying voice for this work in our Church and Nation.

Strategic Approach

Since 1995, a growing number of homeschool, charter school, and school choice families are seeking higher quality education that they can afford with a preference for faith-based options and the richness of a classical liberal arts education.

The Institute focuses on an authentically Catholic, classical/liberal renewal of Catholic schools in collaboration with the U.S. Bishops and the school superintendents who report to them. Catholic University also will partner with a variety of organizations supporting the renewal of Catholic education, as we address critical focus areas of people, policy, and practice.
